About DayDrop

DayDrop (listed on the App Store as Countdown Widget – DayDrop) is an iPhone and iPad countdown app built and maintained by one person. It launched in March 2026 and, as of October 2026, has been installed more than 5,500 times in 175 countries with a worldwide rating of 4.6 from 85 ratings.

It is not related to daydrop.app (a journaling app) or to DayDrop: Daily Planner. If you are looking for countdowns and widgets, you are in the right place.

Who makes it

Hirak Banerjee is a senior quality engineer in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, with fourteen years in banking, payments and insurance software. He builds DayDrop in the evenings and tests it the way he tests payment systems at work: committed XCUITest regression suites, device checks, and independent verification of anything an AI wrote. The lunar-calendar feature, for example, was checked day by day against the Hong Kong Observatory's official tables for 1,078 days before release, with zero mismatches.

How it is built

Swift and SwiftUI, with WidgetKit for the ten widget placements, ActivityKit for the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen Live Activity, SwiftData for storage and CloudKit for iCloud sync between iPhone and iPad. AI backgrounds are generated through a small Cloudflare Worker that holds the image-model credentials, so no API keys ship inside the app and only your event description is sent. The App Store listing is localized into 16 languages by an automated pipeline, and the rating shown on this site is refreshed automatically from App Store Connect.

What the guides on this site are for

The guides answer the questions people actually ask about countdowns on iPhone, with App Store data pulled on the date stated in each one, and they compare DayDrop against competitors honestly, including where DayDrop is the smaller or more expensive option. When a guide is written by the developer of one of the apps it compares, it says so at the top.
